It was overcast last weekend so I thought I would take advantage and head up to the Yarra Ranges National Park which is only about 1.5 hours from where I live. We stopped for a quick lunch at Marysville, which appears to be recovering quite nicely after the bushfires in 2008/2009. After that, it was a 5 minute drive to Lady Talbot Drive, which is a dirt road that will take you to some of the more famous sites around Marysville. Some parts of the track are pretty torn up / potholed / corrugated so take it slow if you go.
The shot above was taken just off the path to Keppel Falls, which is a short 2 km return hike from the carpark on Lady Talbot Drive.
On reaching the end of the Keppel Falls track there is a viewing platform. This shot was taken near the platform. It was also when I was taking this shot that I realised I had a couple of leeches on me. I flicked those suckers off before they had time to bite me but if you are venturing this way note that rainforests (especially just after a bit of rain) are infested with leeches.
Another shot taken from the viewing platform. I thought the water crashing against the boulder made for an interesting shot.
Another shot taken on the track when I was beating a hasty retreat back to the car after discovering the place was crawling with leeches. I think this particular shot would work better with a bit of mist to give it more atmosphere, will have to return soon!
NB Check the trail & weather conditions on the Parks Victoria website before leaving – when i went half the walks on Lady Talbot Drive were closed due to flooding & collapsed roads.
