George Bass Coastal Walk

Decided to head down to Kilcunda and do the George Bass Coastal Walk on the weekend as the weather looked good.  It’s a 7km walk (14 km return) starting from either Punchbowl Road on the outskirts of San Remo or Shelley Beach car park in Kilcunda.   The walk parallels the cliff line between San Remo and Kilcunda.

I decided to start in Kilcunda this time and have to say if you’re short on time and can’t do the whole walk, this is the part to do – rolling green hills on one side and the roaring surf crashing into towering cliffs on the other side.

The photos above and below were taken along the George Bass Coastal Walk coming out of Kilcunda.  If you’re observant enough and lucky enough, you can sometimes see an echidna ambling near the trail.

After a couple of km walking the trail drops down next to a beach – it’s a good place to stop and soak up the atmosphere.

Having down the San Remo side of the George Bass Coastal Walk on several occasions previously, I decided to cut the walk short and check out the Woolamai Hills which I’ve been meaning to explore for a while.

The views were spectacular and the photos really don’t do the place justice.  I’ll have to return soon and really try to capture the spirit of the place in a photo.
