National Rhododendron Gardens

With the start of spring and good weather I thought I’d visit one my favourite photographic haunts at Mt Dandenong.  In particular, I had noticed in the past couple of weeks cherry blossoms blooming near where I live so thought I’d check out the cherry blossom trees at the National Rhododendron Gardens to see how they were going.

As you can see, the different climatic conditions up in Mt Dandenong meant that they cherry blossom grove at the National Rhododendron Gardens had not bloomed yet.  However, there were still plenty of things in full bloom, such as the daffodils above.

Don’t know the name of the flower above but thought it was interesting as the outside of its petals were a bright purple whilst the inside was pure white.

Backlit daffodil with more daffodils in the background.  The sun lighting up all the daffodil flowers was definitely the highlight of my trip that day and more than made up for the lack of cherry blossoms.

Another daffodil.

Managed to find some early cherry blossoms tucked up the back of the gardens.  However it looks like the main grove won’t flower for a few weeks yet – hopefully they will flower in time for the hanami festival in late September!
